Several former high-level officials involved in some of the U.S. government’s most sensitive and covert activities in recent decades came forth Oct. 11 to discuss unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) — a term that has replaced “unidentified flying objects,” or UFOs.
They spoke at the launch of a new platform for UFO disclosure which they have joined, called To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science. The launch was broadcast live on the Academy’s website.
One of the most prominent officials was Luis Elizondo, a senior intelligence officer who finished his career at the U.S. Department of Defense only last week. For nearly a decade, Elizondo ran a government program focused on UAP. He said, “I learned that the phenomenon is indeed real.”
‘[We are] planning to provide never-before-released footage from real U.S. government systems—not blurry, amateur photos, but real data and real videos.’
“[We are] planning to provide never-before-released footage from real U.S. government systems—not blurry, amateur photos, but real data and real videos. And we are inviting our government colleagues and friends to participate regularly with their own findings,” Elizondo said.
Another member of this new platform is Chris Mellon, former deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence in the Clinton and Bush administrations. He held various other national security positions throughout his decades-long career.
Mellon, who has spoken out about UAPs before, gave an example to illustrate the reality of this phenomenon.
Former defense official Chris Mellon gave an example of a government-documented UAP sighting.
One of the Navy’s premium warships, the USS Nimitz, had an encounter with UAP on Nov. 14, 2004, Mellon said. The ship was doing some routine training off the coast of San Diego when an unidentified aircraft approached. “The aircraft has no transponder, it does not respond to radio calls,” Mellon said.
Two F-18 aircraft already aloft moved to intercept it. The aviators saw the white object had no wings or exhaust; it was some 40 feet long and 12 feet thick. As the F-18s closed in, the object seemed “to defy the laws of physics,” Mellon said, as it changed position and eluded the U.S. aircraft.
Mellon has met with the pilots and others who witnessed the event. “Clearly this is not an experimental U.S. aircraft,” he said. “It is a true story, and far from being the only one of its kind.”
‘How can I say this is not real?’ asked a former program director for Lockheed Martin.
Steve Justice, a recently retired program director for advanced systems at Lockheed Martin, said, “How can I say this is not real?”
Lockheed Martin is an aerospace and defense technologies company with a major role in U.S. defense operations. Justice said that the evidence he has seen of UAP has convinced him it is real.
Tom DeLonge was contacted by ‘a man in a certain agency’ when he started digging around for information about UAP.
To The Stars was created by former Blink 182 band member Tom DeLonge. He told the story of how, years ago, he was traveling around the country making connections with officials in the know, when he was contacted by “a man in a certain agency.”
“The conversation put me in my place fast,” DeLonge said. “It was the first time I really digested the enormity of the national security implications of the UFO subject.”
DeLonge acknowledged that the Department of Defense has a culture of secrecy because it’s the job of those officials to protect, not to explain the universe to us or to justify why certain approaches were taken to the UFO issue decades ago.
To The Stars will work on disclosure—and on trying to replicate UAP technology.
To The Stars will work not only on disclosure, but also on trying to replicate UAP technology. It includes scientists, such as Dr. Hal Puthoff, a theoretical physicist and former program director for numerous classified CIA and defense programs. These scientists will piece together the information about UAPs and try to figure out how they work.
The “arts” aspect of To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science is a focus on science fiction. Mellon explained that we understand the world through both rational inquiry and through stories. He compared this dynamic to the right and left hemispheres of the brain working in concert. The Academy helps produce science fiction concepts for entertainment.
