What hides beyond the universe? Is the universe infinite? To understand what the universe is, we must start from the concept of observable universe, that is, planets, stars, solar systems, galaxies, which can be observable.

If we suppose that the universe is isotropic, it has properties independent of the direction in space, the distance to its edge is the same, no matter where we look, and its shape is spherical. We look much further, as the light reaches us.

Currently, we can see up to 46 billion light years in any direction. We can deduce that the observable universe measures about 93 billion light years in diameter.

A light year means the distance the light travels in a year, 9 trillion kilometers. Scientists have approximated that the universe is 13.8 billion years old. In these circumstances, the question arises how is it possible that the edges of the observable universe are 46 billion light years away? One of the explanations for this question is that the universe is constantly expanding.

What’s beyond the universe?

According to some experts, the universe is defined by all the space and time that exists. Under these conditions, there can be no limit to the universe. Albert Einstein argued that the universe is flat, and galaxies are endless.

To support this theory, the Earth was taken as a model. If we look at the land, the Earth seems flat, the curvature is imperceptible. Looked from space, it has a spherical shape.

Solar systems and galaxies are constantly moving to the outside, and the gap between them is increasing. This expansion has led to the concept of particle horizon, the most distant area of ​​the universe with which we can have a possible interaction.

Event horizon

The black holes have a theoretical point, beyond which we can not see. The same situation is in the universe. As the universe expands, galaxies will pass this point.

The curvature of the universe

According to current theories, the geometry of the universe is a flat one, with small differences caused by galaxy clusters. Under these conditions, applying Einstein’s formulas, it turns out that the universe is infinite.
